Mud Pies and Hopscotch

June 18, 2017

Mud pies and hopscotch
Jump rope and baseball
Tree climbing and late-night hide and seek
Simpler times, simpler lives

Pockets of laughter and fun
Lightness and freedom
Sprinkled amongst turmoil and loneliness
Hidden beneath heavy clouds but there all the same

For years it was buried, deep in the recesses of my mind
Overshadowed by wounds, less joyful memories, tears and fears
Time alone did not heal the wounds yet healed they did become
Darkness lifted, a gentle smile was brought to my lips and warmth to my heart

The path of life is not linear
Its story line has many players and plots
Scenes don’t go as planned
Scripts change often, sometimes needing repeated takes

Days pass and years add up
Wounds are healed, clouds are lifted
Hindsight does its magic, revealing parts of life near forgotten
Reminding me of all that was

Mud pies and hopscotch
Jump rope and baseball
Tree climbing and late-night hide and seek
Simpler times, simpler lives

Love and blessings my friends,
